Establishing Status

This workshop focuses on improvising strong choices for "establishing status." This can boost your competitive ability at what casting dirs, agents and coaches always say is important when approaching a script: knowing your character's place in society.

This workshop shows you how to use improvisation to explore and play smart in your VO world:

• Laser focus on understanding STATUS

• Focus on various aspects, practicing in multiple sets or scenes

• Discuss real VO world applications

• Throughout: multiple reps and focused feedback for all participants

About Rebecca

I founded 'Love That Improv VO' in July 2013 because I personally wanted this kind of service and no one was offering it online.

I have been a professional actress since 2001. I have solid acting experience and training - both of which include improv.

For me, VO Improv is many things - sparking that creativity and getting those neurons and synapses to fire in my brain differently, embracing the risk, getting thrilled by the wild abandon and scaling to new heights... sometimes that includes overcoming barriers... and putting it all back into the beautiful work we can create with our voice!

Why take this workshop?

This workshop uses improvisation to explore and practice establishing your characters status, so you can do the same with scripts…

We’ll start by putting everything in context, to help you get a fresh perspective on what status really is, and the range of it.

We’ll work on really obvious status, then on more nuanced status.  Then, put it all together in scenes, showing you how and letting you practice while providing supportive feedback…

At the end we'll discuss using this in VO with scripts.

"Establishing Status" is an elective workshop available to anyone who is qualified, defined on the left. After completing the workshop, you might consider continuing with weekly improv workouts, which will support you to use improvisation in your VO work. The workouts are like “gym workout” improv sessions for VO, and are also audio-only via Skype in a group no larger than 12. Click here to learn more about weekly workouts.

Note – This workshop is not about breaking down a script.  This workshop is for VO talent who work part-time or full-time in voiceover and want to get more competitive by using improv with their VO skills. This workshop is NOT for folks trying to figure out how to start a career in voiceover, and it is NOT for people brand new to voiceover work.
